Welcome! I am an interior designer located in Westchester County, New York, located just north of New York City. How do designers do it? I believe good designers have a solid knowledge of the decorative arts. That means a background in the different periods of furnishings, textiles, lighting etc. that made up the history of great design. You gotta know your “Louis’s” be it the 14th, 15th or 16th on first glance, among many other things. That is how you design today with flair: knowledge of past great design develops that elusive, but necessary, ” great eye”. How to get that knowledge? Read my blog for one! I will cover books, exhibitions, lectures and other events that help ground your knowledge of decorative arts. The more you, see the more you know. I am lucky to live so close to NYC because I have access to the latest and greatest in design, be it in the past (museums!) or the present, but I will try to use a lot of photos so that readers who are too far away to avail themselves of all of the city’s offerings will still get a flavor. I will also survey the current world of design to show how a knowledge of decorative arts has made all the difference in creating a spectacular room. Hope you will join me for the ride.
